Making Your Child’s Dental Care More Affordable

Your child’s smile deserves the same level of exceptional care as what you receive when visiting the dentist’s office. At Woodland Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Sheh works closely with multiple PPO dental insurance companies as an in-network dentist. What this means is that we will not only welcome and accept your plan, but we’ll also file necessary claims and paperwork so that your child’s benefits are fully maximized. If you have questions about your policy and need help to better understand the details of coverage, don’t hesitate to contact our office.

How Dental Insurance Works

Dental insurance generally covers all or a portion of preventive and restorative services. Cosmetic dentistry is usually not built into these plans, as they are unlikely to be medically necessary. Since there is a clear emphasis on minimizing the potential for serious oral health issues as your child grows, you can expect a greater level of savings when it comes to their six-month dental checkups and cleanings.

For example, no two insurance plans are the same, but their benefits structure might look somewhat similar:

  • 100% preventive care covered
  • 80% minor restorative care covered
  • 50% major restorative care covered

What is the Difference Between Dental and Medical Insurance?

Medical insurance is designed to offer the greatest savings should your child require costlier treatment. An example might be that your child needs to be hospitalized for a serious injury. You will find that you save more when faced with a more complex method of treatment as opposed to a general wellness exam. The focus is more on reactionary care.

Dental insurance, however, is focused more on preventive dentistry. Companies want young patients to avoid more expensive forms of treatment, like dental crowns, dental fillings, pulp therapy, or tooth extraction. This is why six-month visits are often covered at 100%.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Each dental insurance plan is divided into an in-network and out-of-network column. The coverage levels and benefits vary between them. Depending on your preference, you may opt to pay less by seeing an in-network dentist.

In-Network Coverage

Partnering with participating dental insurance companies allows our Woodland Pediatric Dentistry team to provide services at a lower cost to those who are enrolled in a plan with the following dental insurance companies:

  • Aetna
  • Guardian
  • Humana
  • Delta Dental Premier
  • Delta Dental
  • Careington
  • MetLife
  • Dental Health Alliance

Out of Network

Out-of-network dentists are those who do not have a contractual agreement with a particular dental insurance company. This means that the fees you pay are likely to be higher and often requested on the day of treatment. Although it is not required that your child see an in-network dentist, you can expect to save more on their oral healthcare.
